Rare London performances by Los Angeles based artist and researcher YUTAKA MAKINO, Barcelona’s computer music cell EVOL, Berlin based Osakan KOUHEI MATSUNAGA and Spanish sound artist PATO + music from CYRK dj’s

-Yutaka Makino

Yutaka Makino is an artist and researcher currently based in Los Angeles. He seeks to amalgamate the historic precedents of computer music and science, involving research in spatial perception, complex dynamical systems and emergence. His works range from sculpture to sound works including performance, computer music composition and spatial sound installation.

-EVOL

EVOL is a computer music cell started in 1996. Their work has been released on internationally acclaimed record labels such as Mego, Entr’acte, Lucky Kitchen, Diskono, Scarcelight, Antifrost, fals.ch or their own ALKU. “Dual Punani” is an electroacoustic piece for computer and pressurized liquid hydrogen horns. The concert has two separate parts, the first one for computer only (using generative algorithms written in Supercollider) and the second one for gas horns, where the musician(s) attempt to recreate some of the patterns, sounds, effects and behavior of the algorithms executed in the first section.

-Pato

His work is a blend of loud algorithmic composition with humorous stochastic flavour and political commitment. Pato´s latest CD on Mattin’s label Free Software Series is a good example of home made harsh computer music and tolerant neighbours.

Kouhei has been active in experimental music since 1992, mixing Turntablism, Noise, Musique Concrète and avant Techno. Best known for working with Sensational (ex Jungle Brothers), other collaborators have included Mika Vainio, Sean Booth(Autechre), Merzbow, John Watermann, Asmus Tietchens, Rudolf Eb.er and Anla Courtis. Debut recordings of solo guitarist Tom James Scott

‘Tom is a young classically trained guitarist, a mainstay of the improvising collective CYRK. Tom’s influences stretch far and wide, touching upon aspects of traditional music, improvisation, vocal music, composition, and field recording to name but a few. These 5 slices of acoustic alchemy are well formed compositions for acoustic guitar, where the wealth of folk guitar has been distilled through a minimalist mind set to create some of the most beautiful elemental melodic lines that take the listener on a journey of meditative contemplation’.
